Basil Progress

basil_sprouts_02

The basil is coming along nicely. There are about 20 sprouts happening now, about an inch high. They’re in a very small self-watering planter, so I imagine I’ll have to repot them when they’re a bit more established, but for now, they’ll be okay, I think.

The mesclun mix is coming along also, though it seems as if only two (possibly three) types have come up. I think there are supposed to be five or six in the mix. I guess it’s possible that I just didn’t get all the varieties in the plantings, since I don’t really have a way of knowing when I’m just looking at the seeds. But the ones that have sprouted got little tiny leaves and are roughly two inches tall now, but don’t seem to be doing anything else. I wonder if they’re getting tall reaching for the light (though I don’t think they should need to – the kitchen gets good, bright light most of the day, even though they’re not in the windowsill directly). It just seems like they should, you know, be doing stuff by now. Or maybe I’m just impatient. So hard to tell sometimes.
